A Turbulent Year 2003 was in many ways a turbulent year for my band Shepherd Moons. After recording the single CD Bicycle Craze, we started an intense campaign for the band in February 2003. The campaign turned out to be a total disaster. 1/3 of live venues in Denmark closed down in the early 2003 due to missing financial support from the culture ministry. The surviving venues panicked and wouldn´t touch a ´writer´s´ band with original music. The country filled with pop star contest winners and tribute bands. Original bands were out of work. During our futile attempts to book a tour, I became very ill in the stomach and I was bodily down for 6 months. In July, feeling physically miserable, I started writing my usual yearly song collection, but after 3 songs the work stopped. The songs eventually came to life but it took me four months to write 12 songs, my longest writing period ever for a song collection. Luckily, a couple of the songs turned out to be really good with Exactly, Football and Echelon Blues as the winners. So finally, after having arranged the songs, Shepherd Moons will include 2 of the new songs in the forthcoming 2004 album Puzzled; the warm love song Exactly and the mysterious Football with a boy and his father playing football in the dark, green jungle. In this song collection, I have used both guitar and piano to write the songs. A rush of Expectation and Silver Spring are good examples of my piano based writing, which differs a lot from my songs written on guitar.
Hopefully, you will enjoy Exactly and Football, rock along with Go Public and be mystified by the science fiction ballade Solaris. Good rocking tonight!
