The collection of ancient Greek portraits in the Glyptotek illustrates many aspects of Greek sculpture as well as Greek history - politically and spiritually.
The collection comprises fantasy portraits as the Classical poet Anacreon, early individualised likenesses such as Alcibiades (?) and Socrates.
The self-portrait of Pheidias (?), the 5th cent. BC master sculptor, rulers such as Phillip II, Alexander the Great, Ptolemy I, and Pyrrhus.
The famous philosophers Epicurus and Aristotle, the tragedians Euripides and Sophocles, the full figure statue of the orator Demosthenes, and the posthumous portrait of Homer.
