The journalist Edward Vizetelly (1847–1903) was sent to report on Britain's newest possession, Cyprus in 1878. From 1882 to 1889 he was in Egypt, narrowly missing an interview with Gordon before the latter's death. His adventures continued with a quest to find the missing H. M. Stanley in southern Africa.
