In 1820–3, Russian explorer Ferdinand von Wrangell (1797–1870) led an expedition to survey Siberia's north-eastern coastline. Translated into English from German, this wide-ranging account of a little-known portion of the globe was edited by the geophysicist Sir Edward Sabine (1788–1883) and published in 1840.
