First published in 1853, this work recounts an unsuccessful mission to locate the missing Franklin expedition. Edward Inglefield (1820–94), a naval officer and explorer, captained the Isabel to the Arctic in the summer of 1852. The book also includes detailed scientific observations made in the region.
