Bricks and wood are the traditional building materials in the Kathmandu Valley. This book describes how bricks are produced in traditional and modern kilns, the production processes and the people involved in each stage of production: the moulders of the green bricks, the porters of the bricks into the kiln proper, and workers from Bihar who set the bricks in the kiln, control the firing process and carry the finished red bricks out of the kiln for storage. The book also contains interviews with workers and owners, and discusses various problems related to brick production.
