An influential Cambridge botanist, John Henslow (1796–1861) revived his department, initiated the study of individual sciences, and went on, as a clergyman, to further popular education in his parish of Hitcham. This led to the publication of this taxonomical catalogue in 1860, collated with help from local amateur botanists.
