Astrid Lindgren (1907-2002) var en svensk forfatterinde, der primært er kendt for sine elskede børnebøger. Hun blev født i Näs ved Vimmerby i Småland, og det er her, mange af hendes bøger tager deres udgangspunkt. Hendes forfatterkarriere tog for alvor fart, da hun i 1945 udgav fortællingen om Pippi Langstrømpe, en historie, som blev til, da Lindgrens datter, Karin, lå syg, og hun underholdt hende med historien om den stærke og selvstændige Pippi.
Lindgrens bøger er kendt og elsket for deres humor, fantasi og hjertevarme, og de er læst af børn og voksne verden over. Blandt hendes mest kendte værker er fortællingerne om Emil fra Lønneberg, Ronja Røverdatter, Mio min Mio, Børnene i Bulderby, Madicken, Brødrene Løvehjerte, Karlsson på taget, Lotte fra Spektakelmagergade og mange flere. Disse bøger er i dag betragtet som vaskeægte børnebogsklassikere. Lindgrens betydning for børnelitteraturen kan ikke overvurderes, og hendes bøger lever videre og betager nye generationer.
