Danielle Steel (f. 1947) blev født ind i jetsetlivet på begge sider af Atlanten, men hun oplevede også tidligt bagsiden af medaljen, da hendes forældre blev skilt, og igen, da hun selv blev skilt. Det var til gengæld også det, der for alvor fik hende i gang med at skrive, og selvom det tog noget tid at løbe karrieren i gang, blev hun snart en af romance-genrens højst skattede forfattere. Hendes bøger foregår gerne i det jetset, hun selv er vokset op i, men lader håbet og kærligheden spire frem de mest uventede steder. Danielle Steel skriver gerne et par bøger om året og har en gigantisk bibliografi bag sig, hvoraf mange er oversat til dansk.
