Wordsworth Editions LTD blev grundlagt i 1987, men opnåede for alvor sin berømmelse med lanceringen af £1 Classic paperbacks i 1992, en revolutionerende idé fra den nu afdøde Michael Trayler. Dette initiativ gjorde det muligt at tilbyde klassiske værker til en brøkdel af prisen, hvilket gjorde dem yderst attraktive for litteraturelskere.
