Aimé-Louis Champollion-Figeac wrote this double biography, published in Grenoble in 1887, of his father Jacques-Joseph and uncle, Jean-François, famous for his 1824 decipherment of the trilingual Rosetta Stone, which offered the key to an understanding of Egyptian hieroglyphics and consequently of the civilisation of ancient Egypt.
