Léopold de Saussure (1866–1925) learned Chinese and observed the stars while serving in the French navy. Retiring as a lieutenant in 1899, he then pioneered the study of ancient Chinese astronomy. This 1930 work gathers together eleven important journal articles, originally published between 1907 and 1922.
