Sarah Lee (1791–1856) was a remarkable traveller and scientist. With her first husband she explored the flora and fauna of west Africa, and later studied under Cuvier. This 1833 biography, published shortly after Cuvier's death, remained the authoritative work in English on the most distinguished scientist of the age.
