Arthur Penrhyn Stanley (1815–1881) was a Biblical historian and theologian, elected Dean of Westminster in 1863. During 1852 and 1853 he visited Egypt and the Holy Land. This 1856 book describes in vivid detail the ancient monuments he visited and creates a 'sacred geography' with reference to the Bible.
