Charles Buxton (1822–1871) was an active Member of Parliament and social reformer. He advocated church reforms in Ireland and supported the abolitionist movement. In 1860 he published this short pamphlet defending abolition in the British West Indies, which he claimed had brought prosperity to the islands.
