Beskrivelse
The Glyptotek's collection of Cypriote antiquities is quite rich: large sculpture, painted pots - large and small - humble terracotta figurines, glass, all showing aspects of the multifaceted Cypriote culture from the prehistoric period to Roman times. Pots and pans in the collection were for ordinary and festive use, and subsequently accompanying the dead in their graves, statues and figurines were offered to the gods.
The island was much disputed in the high politics of antiquity, a fact clearly revealed in Cypriote art, influenced successively by cultures of the super powers of their day: Assyria, Persia, Egypt, Greece and Rome.
