Benjamin Newton (1762–1830) was Rector of Wath in the early nineteenth century, and the tutor and close friend of Charles Budenell-Bruce, the first Marquis of Ailesbury. This book, originally published in 1933, contains his diaries from 1816 to 1818, in which he records the daily duties of a clergyman in this period.
