Marguerite Gardiner, Countess of Blessington (1789–1849), was famous for her beauty, charm and wit. The latter features are reflected in this work, originally published in two volumes in 1841. Blessington describes her experiences in Nîmes, Arles, St Rémy, and Paris (her residence during 1828–30) with enthusiasm and humour.
