Thomas Carlyle (1795–1881) was one of the most influential authors of the nineteenth century. His introduction of German literature and philosophy into Victorian society profoundly influenced later philosophical and literary ideas. Volume 11 of this 1896 edition of his works contains his biography of author John Sterling.
