From 1945 to 1973, 115,427 US military men were advisors in Vietnam. Of these, 66,399 were combat advisors. Combat advisors, officers and NCOs, lived and fought with Vietnamese combat units, advising on tactics, weapons, and liaising with local US military support. This is the story of the author’s first tour as a combat advisor from 1966 to 1967.
