The German composer, performer and critic Ferdinand Praeger (1815–91) was active in London from 1834. His personal knowledge and admiration of Richard Wagner led to the publication of this work in 1892, which overplayed his role in the composer's career. Nonetheless, it contains personal impressions which remain of interest.
