Between 1840 and 1842, the philologist Georg Friedrich Grotefend (1775–1853) published this collection of essays on the geography and history of pre-Roman Italy. He emphasises the need to consult the earliest sources, and discusses Greek and Roman myths relating to Italy, as well as ethnic groups and family names.
