Iben Benedikte Valentin Jensen
M.Ed. and lecturer at the Bornholm College of Education. Graduated from Aarhus Teacher Training College 1991. Formerly lectured at University College of Southern Denmark and has been a visiting lecturer at universities in Japan, Great Britain and Belgium. A regular contributor to educational debates in Denmark and was one the prime movers behind Nyt Askov Press. Works include Tag ansvar: opgør med læringstyranniet (Take responsibility: countering the tyranny of learning) (2016) and Find din faglige stolthed (Find your professional pride) (2015).
In addition, contributions from Simon Lægsgaard, Ewa Smuk Stratenwerth, Monika Andersson and Thue Kjærhus.
Beskrivelse
Folk high schools wove together the life of practice with that of the intellect and in so doing changed Denmark from a class-based society into one founded on democratic humanism – into one people. Iben Benedikte Valentin Jensen sketches out the historic role of the folk high school and provides a critique of the current academisation of the educational world. Four narratives show how folk high schools provide enlightenment for the people nowadays.
