Naturalist and surgeon Sir John Richardson (1787–1865) accompanied Sir John Franklin on his first two Arctic expeditions. Richardson collected specimens during the trips and produced this four-volume natural history work on his return. Volume 3 was first published in 1836 and is devoted to Canadian Arctic fish species.
