In 1829, explorer Alexander von Humboldt (1769–1859) embarked on an epic 10,000-mile expedition to study largely unexplored areas of Central Asia. He made pioneering contributions to the geography, volcanic geology and meteorology of the area. This first volume, published in 1831, deals with hydrology and climatology.
