Laurence Austine Waddell (1854–1938) served in the Indian Medical Service, which took him to Darjeeling, Burma and Tibet. Illustrated with photographs, maps and drawings, this 1905 publication presents his eyewitness account of the recent British expedition to Tibet. Later chapters vividly portray the city of Lhasa and its inhabitants.
