First published in 1899, this is the first of two volumes of lectures by Cambridge Professor James Ward (1843–1925), in which he argues for Idealism over Naturalism and Agnosticism. The lectures in Volume 2 lay out his monistic Idealist theory, in which consciousness is inseparable from the physical world.
