The ancient Mediterranean basin was a multicultural region with a great diversity of linguistic, religious, social and ethnic groups. This study provides a new understanding of it by examining identity construction in multiethnic commercial settlements located throughout the region and explores literary, epigraphic and archaeological evidence to investigate cross-cultural interactions.
