This two-volume work by Julia Pardoe (1804–62), published in 1837, arose from a visit to Turkey in 1835. Volume 2 describes Pardoe's travels in western Turkey and her return to Europe, giving a lively and observant account of life in the declining but still powerful Ottoman empire.
