John Lewis Burckhardt (1784–1817) was a Swiss explorer who explored Arabia and the Middle East in the guise of a Muslim. First published posthumously in 1829, these volumes contain his important and fascinating descriptions of Mecca and Medina. Volume 2 describes the city of Medina.
