John Lewis Burckhardt (1784–1817) was a Swiss explorer who explored Arabia and the Middle East in the guise of a Muslim. First published posthumously in 1819, this volume contains his fascinating account of his journey along the Sudanese Nile valley and his crossing of the Nubian Desert.
