Beskrivelse

Wuthering Heights is a wild, passionate story of the intense and almost demonic love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, a foundling adopted by Catherine's father. After Mr Earnshaw's death, Heathcliff is bullied and humiliated by Catherine's brother Hindley and wrongly believing that his love for Catherine is not reciprocated, leaves Wuthering Heights, only to return years later as a wealthy and polished man. He proceeds to exact a terrible revenge for his former miseries.

The action of the story is chaotic and unremittingly violent, but the accomplished handling of a complex structure, the evocative descriptions of the lonely moorland setting and the poetic grandeur of vision combine to make this unique novel a masterpiece of English literature.

Fantastisk bog

"i give him my heart and he took and pinched it to death and flung it back at me"

"they may bury me twelve feet deep and throw the church down on me but I won't rest till you are with me."

This book was difficult for me to give a rating. The writing is lovely, I really enjoyed it. Even though the romance and love between Heathcliff and Cathy was next level obsessive. The words and the way they speak about, the love they feel I very well written. I can feel their deep and weird love for each other through the words. The thing that makes it so difficult to love is the fact, that the characters are so unlikeable. I did feel bad for Heathcliff and some of the other characters at first But it didn't take long, before they just became terrible. Heathcliff is a terrible human being, Cathy is so calculated and manipulative and Linton (Heathcliff's son) is just pathetic. I liked how the plot got more and more gothic, the more obsessed Heathcliff became. The fact that he bribed the sexton, and opened Cathy's grave, so he could have a spot next to her, is more disturbing than romantic. I did overall have a great time but it did take a while to get through. It is not a favorite of the few classics I have read. Jane Austen is still at the top but I did really appreciate, how different the setting and the social aspects was, in comparison. I would for sure tell people to read it no hesitation, it was by no means, a waste of time.

Wuthering Heights
