This six-volume work on the history and philosophy of Sikhism, published in 1909 by Max Arthur Macauliffe (1841–1913), a deputy commissioner of the Punjab, is considered his magnum opus. Volume 5 narrates the life of Gobind Singh, the tenth guru, with translations of a selection of his compositions.
